Miami, Florida - Offshore

Capt. Mark Houghtaling
May 12, 2005
Miami - Saltwater Fishing Report

Dolphin fishing remains slow and only a few captains are finding any fish offshore. Anglers finding debris report catching school size dolphin under the junk. Even anglers to south of us in the keys are finding dolphin fishing on the slow side. We must be patient, they will come!

Anglers fishing kites along the edge of the stream are still catching good numbers of sailfish. Last Saturday on board the " Magic Fingers" we caught and released 9 out of 12 sailfish along with a nice Blackfin Tuna and a bunch of bonito. The Tuna should be here thru the end of May.

Yesterday (May 10th) we went bottom fishing and we caught 7 Mutton Snapper. We kept five and the two biggest were in the 15 pound class. We also caught a few kings. To the south off Elliot Key the houndfish are a pain in the ass when you drift into 120 feet of water and shallower.
