Miami, Florida - Offshore

Capt. Mark Houghtaling
October 18, 2005
Miami - Saltwater Fishing Report

Anglers have been having some early action on terrific Sailfishing. This past week fish have been showing up from the Monument Buoy down to North Key Largo. Anglers fishing live bait from kites have recorded up to a half a dozen catches a day during the recent northeast winds we have been having. Along with the action has been larger size dolphin. During a recent half day trip we caught a couple of Mahi Mahi from ten to fifteen pounds along with a few sails. During the same day Capt Jimbo Thomas on the Thomas Flyer had an all day trip and caught 18 dolphin. All of his fish were the bigger size and he released many smaller ones. The action has been in close too. He found most of his fish from the edge on out to about 300 feet of water. There have been a lot of Frigate birds working the edge of the stream. Look for them in the early morning hours. I have had other reports of anglers finding bigger dolphin offshore along with the occasional Wahoo. I guess you could say the the fall run of Dolphin is here.
