Miami - Saltwater Fishing Report

Offshore fishing is becoming more and more difficult each day. Dolphin
have been harder and harder to find with only an exceptional day here and
there. A few fish can be found on migrating birds and fish will be found on
boards, but one day will be great and the next three may look grim. However,
the charter boat “Cutting Edge” had a terrific week of Sailfishing. They
observed a few “tailing” Sailfish on a rip in 400 feet of water during a brief
period of northeasterly winds. The next day they found the rip hugging the
reef line and decided to put the kites up. Low and behold they found the
Sailfish bite to be good. They release three fish one day and two the next
before the fish moved offshore again. Not a bad day for August kite fishing.
Bonita’s have been swarming along the reef. We spent one afternoon
chumming them to the boat with small live Pilchards and had terrific time
catching them on lite tackle and fly rods. Many of the fish were small, but
occasionally a school of bigger fish would move through and beat you up.
One angler reported excellent Mangrove Snapper fishing at night, north of
Pacific Reef, in forty feet of water. He said the bite started at 10:00 p.m. and
ends about 1:00 am. He has been catching his limit every trip and has been
having the same action all month .
