Fishing North Biscayne Bay

Happy Thanksgiving to everyone and if you have been fishing in Biscayne Bay recently then you may have had Spanish mackerel on your table in place of Turkey. Spanish mackerel were biting right up to the cold front that came in on Friday dropping temperatures into the 50’s on Sat. and lowering water temperatures by as much as 6 degrees on Sunday. End result the mackerel moved on and just about everything but jack crevalles either left for warmer water or just slid into a deeper water depth looking for a little warmth. Fishing in North Biscayne Bay all the way to Gov. Cut on Sat. & Sun. resulted in a two day catch of a dozen small barracudas, a few small sea trout and over 70 jack crevalles to 6 lbs. Bait remain in the bay but require a lot more searching and patient to find. Give the bay a few days of sunshine and the water temps. Should rise a few degrees turning on the action once again.

Jerry C. and son in law Chuck and Chuck’s son Jeff caught 13 Spanish mackerel to 3 lbs., jack crevalles, sea trout and blue runners releasing everything but a few of the mackerel on Thursday then on Sat. caught close to 50 jack crevalles to 6 lbs. plus 6 small barracudas in winds that reached 25 mph.

Jerry Chaves fishing with his grandson Spencer age 6. Spencer out fished his grandfather by landing a 2 lb. and 4 lb. Spanish mackerel plus a few blue runners. The pair had many chances at other mackerel before Spencer got tired.

Roger Linetta and sons Brandon & Clint caught close to 20 small jack crevalles, blue runners, barracudas and sea trout on Sun.
