FISHING NORTRH BISCAYNE BAY
with Capt. Alan Sherman
It’s time for a fishing update for North Biscayne Bay and Flamingo. Speckled Sea Trout continue to feed well throughout North Biscayne Bay on and near the shallow grass flats. Many of the fish are on the small side but there have been enough larger fish to make it interesting. Recently we have had Trout to 4 ½ lbs with many others just under that weight. They have been hitting live Shrimp under a Cajun Thunder and live Pilchards that I have been able to net with my 10’ 3/8” West Coast Net. We have also caught many on ¼ oz Red & Chartreus Capt. Hank Brown Hook Up lures with a Saltwater Assassin plastic Shrimp Tail bounced along the bottom. Occasionally Pompano, small Jack Crevalles and Ladyfish have hit the jig heads while we have fished the flats for Sea Trout. Under some of the bridges we have had schools of small to medium size Jack Crevalles, Snappers and Snook take a Shrimp attached to a ¼ oz. Hook Up Lure and reeled back to the boat slowly. Spanish & King Mackerel have been scarce in the North Part of the Bay but on occasion they have showed up in the South part of the bay. Grouper as of now have been scattered.
Flamingo in Everglades National Park has produced some great Spanish Mackerel catches when the wind has been out of the East. Some Tripletail and Cobia have been in the same areas. Speckled Sea Trout have been active in the channels and deeper grass flats with Reds & Snook hiding back in the rivers with a lot of small Gag & Goliath Groupers. Jack Crevalles and Ladyfish have kept the anglers busy when things have slowed down.
