North Biscayne Bay Fishing Report

Capt. Alan Sherman
April 20, 2005
Miami - Saltwater Fishing Report

Fishing North Biscayne Bay

with Capt. Alan Sherman

Fishing in North Biscayne Bay has definetly been interesting for the past few weeks. Speckled sea trout have been plentiful with many of the bigger fish over 20"s being spawning females. Our biggest recently weighed in at 4 1/4 lbs and ate a live finger mullet. We released her to complete her spawning season. Big jack crevalles right up to today continue to roam the bay as they chase the migrating schools of Spanish sardines, pilchards and finger mullet. Spanish mackerel and juvenile king mackerel are working the same schools of bait. Ladyfish at times have been very thick and one of my clients had a ball catching them on fly. Snook have been avilable in the daytime but on the small side. Some big ones have been seen but they have been very spooky. Tarpon continue to be active around the ocean inlets but the shrimp are getting almost too small to fish with. Crabs are now the favored bait. Nightime snook and tarpon fishing around the bridges and dock lights has produced some good catches on live shrimp and sardines. Lots of Law Enforcement on the water at night so make sure your running lights are working and your safety equipment is up to date before heading out at night.

Recent Catches:

Jerry C. caught 6 Spanish mackerel, 4 - 10lb. jack crevalles and a dozen speckled sea trout.

Donald Kaplan lost 1 tarpon, and caught 6 Spanish Mackerel to 5 lbs., 3 dolphin and a shark.

Joel Dockson caught and released 2 - 10 lb. jack crevalles, 1 snook, 3 small king mackerel and a few trout to 2 1/2 lbs.

Steve Ziegler and his 8 yr. old son Zach caught 2 snook, 1 - 10lb. jack crevalle and Zach released a 20 " gag grouper.

Jerry Chaves and Stanley Angel teamed up to catch close to 30 ladyfish on Hook Up lures and live shrimp and fly plus 6 snook to 9 lbs.
