FISHING NORTH BISCAYNE BAY

With Capt. Alan Sherman

North Biscayne Bay fishing has been up and down with the constant weather changes. The good thing is that the fishing has been mostly on the up side. Each day when I launch my boat I hit the water with the same basic plan. Take what the bay is willing to give but keep on trying for the mother load. Finding baitfish has been a challenge but there are some decent sized pilchards in the bay and by looking hard we have been able to get enough to fish the day. Not enough to chum with the pilchards but enough to fish. Fishing the pilchards under Cajun Thunders has produced some real nice sea trout, mangrove snappers, barracudas, bull sharks and some quality sized snook. Hook Up Lures tipped with a plastic shrimp or fish tail and then tipped with a piece of Fishbites for scent has produced some of the biggest trout. Large jack crevalles are still roaming the bay but you just can’t predict where they will show from day to day. I have been fishing Flamingo quite a bit recently and the fishing has been very good. Snook, tarpon, jack crevalles, ladyfish, sea trout, redfish and large sharks have been part of the catches on most trips. The mosquitoes are around but one good spray at the boat ramp and your good until you return to the dock.
