The holiday season is here and I know many of the readers struggle with just the right gift for that fisherperson in their lives. To make things a little easier for you here is a list of some of the products that would make any fisherperson or boater happy this holiday season.

Go to www.xtool.com Every fisherperson needs a high quality fishing line like Ande line that offers a wide variety of fishing lines. www.ande.com Everybody needs a new set of foul weather gear like the suites made by Frogg Toggs. www.froggtoggs.com Fishing tackle like Hook Up Lures at www.hookuplures.com How about an artificial bait called Fishbites. www.fishbites.com Every fisherperson needs a high quality sunscreen like Smart Shield Sunscreens. www.sunscreen.com A new hat that covers not only your head but also your neck and ears.

Long sleeved cotton tee shirts to keep the sun off of your arms. www.floridasportman.com A new quality-fishing reel made by Daiwa. www.daiwa.com A new fishing rod to match that fishing reel by Key Largo Rods. www.keylargorods.com A high quality self-inflating floatation device.

A new waterproof soft-sided tackle box or gearbox.

A brand-new boat by Maverick powered by a brand new Yamaha outboard engine. www.maverick.com www.yamahamotors.com , www.bobhewesboats.com

Of course if you get the boat then you need a vehicle strong enough and durable enough to get them to the boat ramp and back. How about a 2006 Chevrolet Avalanche for (me) I mean for them. www.chevrolet.com And last but not least a half day or full day fishing trip with Capt. Alan Sherman in North Biscayne Bay, Offshore or Flamingo in Everglades National Park. www.getemsportfishing.com Most of these items can be purchased at Capt. Harry’s Fishing Supplies or at your favorite outdoor department store.

Hope these ideas help make that special fisherperson you know happy for the holidays.

Things in south Florida are finally getting back to normal since Hurricane Wilma and that includes the fishing here in North Biscayne Bay and Offshore. My new Pathfinder has given me the opportunity to fish inshore and offshore on the calmer days. In the last few days I have seen a tremendous improvement in the fishing. Loads of baitfish continue to hold in North Biscayne Bay and plenty of predators having their way with the pilchards, threadfin herring and finger mullet. Spanish mackerel, bluefish, small jack crevalles, ladyfish, snapper, sharks, barracudas, tarpon, snook and speckled sea trout for catch and release have been feeding on these baitfish whenever they feel like it. A new artificial reef has been added to the Julia Tuttle reef. Snapper, grouper, grunts and a few tarpon have already taken up residency there.

Nighttime snook and tarpon fishing around the few dock lights and bridge lights that were left by Hurricane Wilma are producing some reel good fishing. Medium to large shrimp free lined with the current is the ticket. Just offshore Spanish mackerel, bluerunners and bluefish have been playing hit and miss with us. Finding some diving birds has been the key. Offshore the Gulf Stream’s edge has been about 6 or 7 miles offshore but the fishing along the edge has made it well worth the ride. Nice sized dolphin and a few wahoo plus an occasional white marlin have made things interesting along the edge. Along the outer reef sailfish have been available with some big king mackerel

Wish you all a safe and happy holiday season and a very happy New Year and don’t forget you can purchase a half-day, ¾ or full day gift certificate fishing with me in North Biscayne Bay, Offshore or Flamingo by calling me at 786-436-2064 or e-mailing me at [email protected].

Recent Catches:

Lance Harke and his young son’s Ryan, Eric and friend Adeed fishing a half day trip in North Biscayne bay caught over 25 jack crevalles, ladyfish, cero mackerel, juvenile king mackerel, speckled sea trout, barracuda’s and bluerunners.

Dr. David Lang and son’s Alan age 8 and Ryan age 6 fishing a half day trip just offshore caught loads of bluerunners, jack crevalles, 3 Spanish mackerel and 10 king mackerel to 9 lbs.

Ron Patella and son’s Ronnie and Joey looking to learn a little about Flamingo had numerous shots at redfish and snook but only managed to catch large sharks, jack crevalles, ladyfish and speckled sea trout.

James Atherton and his young son’s Alex 9 and Harry 6 fishing a ½ day trip in North Biscayne Bay caught 2 dozen jack crevalles and a dozen speckled sea trout.

Michael Tronner fishing a full day in Flamingo in 20-knot winds struggled to catch even one fish. Mike lost a slot sized a snook at the boat then the sharks moved in killing the action.

Ted Simmindinger and Jay Tucker only wanted to catch a tarpon so we fished a full day in Flamingo. The duo caught plenty of jack crevalles, speckled sea trout, ladyfish but no tarpon. The big rod only attracted sharks and the two tarpon they we had on hit 6 lb. rods with strips of ladyfish for bait only remained on the line for a jump or two each.

Jerry Chaves and friend Stanley Angel fishing in North Biscayne Bay went 2 for 5 on tarpon up to 80 lbs. They also caught plenty of jack crevalles and speckled sea trout. Jerry caught a few jacks on fly.

Jerry Cohen and Donald Kaplan fishing North Biscayne Bay and Offshore had tarpon rolling all around them but no takers then lost 2 nice Spanish mackerel and shots at 2 sharks and 6 big barracuda’s before heading offshore where they lost a wahoo and caught 2 nice dolphin before returning to the bay where they caught a dozen jack crevalles, bluerunners, sea trout and 7 big Spanish mackerel.
