North Biscayne Bay Fishing Report

Capt. Alan Sherman
May 11, 2006
Miami - Saltwater Fishing Report

FISHING NORTH & SOUTH BISCAYNE BAY & OFFSHORE

with Capt. Alan Sherman

Time for a fishing update! With the spring migration underway this is a great time to be on the water. Moderate temperatures and minimum winds have rewarded my anglers with some great catches recently. These fishing conditions should remain right through June. With my new 22’ Pathfinder powered by a new Yamaha 200 HPDI outboard I have been able to get my clients to some of the best areas that have provided us with outstanding catches. Offshore we have found scattered action on king mackerel to ten pounds, bonito to fifteen pounds, schoolie dolphin, and sailfish like the 85” sail that Duane Alexander caught on twenty pound Ande braided line. We have also had amberjack, yellowjack and scamp grouper on some of the deeper wrecks. In the inlet at Government Cut tarpon continue to bite our drifted crabs. In North Biscayne Bay sea trout have been biting our pilchards under a Cajun Thunder and Hook Up lures tipped with soft plastic tails and a piece of Fishbites for scent. The Rapala X Raps and Storm soft plastics have been hot as well and when the big jacks pass by these plugs have not been treated well. Fishing in Flamingo has been outstanding. The bugs have yet to be a problem and the fishing and catching for trout, snook, redfish, tarpon, jack crevalles, ladyfish, tripletail, cobia, bluefish and Spanish mackerel has been spectacular. If you like monster fishing and sharks are on your mind then Flamingo is the place to be with lemons, blacktips and bull sharks from fifty to way over one hundred pounds.

Now is the time to be on the water so don’t hesitate to call and book an inshore charter in North, South Biscayne Bay or Flamningo.
