FISHING NORTH BISCAYNE BAY, SOUTH BISCAYNE BAY, OFFSHORE & FLAMINGO
With Capt. Alan Sherman
Ernesto has left and water conditions are rapidly returning to normal and the great fishing that we had been experiencing before Ernesto should return as soon as tomorrow. A quick look at North Biscayne Bay today revealed a few schools of small baitfish and many medium to large silver mullet schools and that can only mean that water quality in the bay remains stable enough for the gamefish to continue providing us with the steady action of weeks past. Fishing late afternoons into the early evenings rewarded my clients with small tarpon, snook to 9 pounds, lots of ladyfish action, small and large jack crevalles to 9 pounds, barracudas, sharks and mangrove snappers on almost every trip. With all of the cloud cover the past three days water and air temperatures have dropped many degrees and that could very possibly start our fall migration to take place early this year. Once the large schools of finger mullet, Spanish sardines and glass minnows move into our area fishing will explode. September, October and the first weeks of November will provide my clients at the best fishing action of the year in North Biscayne Bay. Snook, tarpon, large jack crevalles as big as 15 pounds, Spanish mackerel, juvenile king mackerel, bluefish and later on pompano will be species that we can add to our residential fish.
Snook season reopens on September 1st at 12:01 AM.
South Biscayne Bay will have some of the best flats fishing of the year as water temperatures start to cool off. This will have bonefish tailing on the shallowest of flats longer each day. Permit will be cruising the ocean side flats and then as we get closer to October and November snapper, grouper, Spanish mackerel, pompano and bluefish returning to the finger channels.
Offshore king mackerel, bonito and dolphin will be fish that I will be targeting on the calm days of September and October. Add to that the tarpon, snook, ladyfish, bluefish and Spanish mackerel that will be working the beach side bait schools and we have plenty to keep us busy from the ocean inlets out to the Gulf Stream.
In Flamingo snook will be easy targets from Snake Bight north to the Harney River and joining them will be tarpon, redfish, large jack crevalles and sharks. Go into the open Gulf and large schools of Spanish mackerel, bluefish, a few permit and cobias will be available. And no bugs!
