North Biscayne Bay Fishing Report

Capt. Alan Sherman
January 24, 2007
Miami - Saltwater Fishing Report

FISHING NORTH & SOUTH BISCAYNE BAY< OFFSHORE & FLAMINGO

with

Capt. Alan Sherman

Looks like we may get a winter weather change in the next few days and that can only help kick start the new years fishing. Even though water temperatures have been at least 5 degrees higher then normal fishing has been very good. The only thing that has made our fishing difficult has been the relentless wind. Nice thing about South Florida inshore light tackle fishing is that there is always somewhere you can go where the waters are fishable. Recently I have fished North Biscayne Bay where my clients have done well on sea trout of all sizes, Spanish mackerel to 4 pounds, small jack crevalles and small snook. In South Biscayne Bay my clients have had steady action on Spanish mackerel to 6 pounds, bluefish, mutton, mangrove and yellowtail snapper, bluerunners, yellow jacks, jack crevalles, pompano, small groupers and quite a few sharks. In Flamingo when the wind has been less than 20 miles per hour fishing in the Gulf of Mexico has been about as good as it gets. Cobias to 30 pounds, Spanish mackerel all day long, bluefish, tripletail, pompano, snappers, jack crevalles, ladyfish and sharks of all sizes. In Florida Bay sea trout, snook, redfish, tarpon, jacks, ladyfish and sharks have been available. Recently I fished Captain Bouncer Smith of Bouncers Dusky in Flamingo with his sisters Sue and Sharon on Avery windy day. We caught plenty of fish but not what we were looking for. We had hoped to get out in the Gulf and try our luck on the cobias but the wind wouldn’t let us. The guys and gals had a great time catching small trout, jack crevalles, tons of ladyfish, an 80 pound bull shark and way too many catfish. Highlights of the day were when a large pompano almost skipped into the boat and then Bouncers ½ pound channel cat on a jig and my ¼ pound sea trout on a Cajun Thunder.

Don’t let the weather conditions keep you off the water. Remember you can’t catch that trophy fish of a lifetime or have a special day on the water unless you get out on the water and fish.

Check out my new web site and see the monthly catches!
