North Biscayne Bay Fishing Report

Miami - Saltwater Fishing Report

Feels like spring to me even though we are still in March and spring is still a few weeks away. Fishing in South Florida has picked up with the milder weather and it does not seem to matter where you fish the fish are waiting for us.
North Biscayne Bay is loaded with sea trout with some fish way over 20 inches and many under 15 inches. The trout are hitting Hook Up lures with plastic shrimp tails and a piece of Fishbites for added scent. A few large schools of large jack crevalles are roaming the bay but you have to be at the right place at the right time to get in on the action. When the jacks show up we have been throwing Rapala Twitchin Raps and X Raps at them. Some Spanish mackerel have also been in the north part of the bay but they have not been consistent. Tarpon have finally shown up at Gov. Cut but they have not been in a feeding mood. Snook have been scarce for me in North Biscayne Bay. Snapper and grouper have been in the deeper rocky channels.
South Biscayne Bay is not as good as it was last year at this time mostly because of the mild conditions but the action has been good enough. Lots of Spanish mackerel, small jacks, bluerunners, ladyfish, snapper, grouper, porgy’s and some huge houndfish and barracudas in and around the Finger Channels. We have seen a few schools of bonefish up on the flats and even had a shot at a few but no hook ups yet.
Flamingo has been the most consistent place recently due to the milder weather conditions and I only wish I had more clients eager to make the ride to the park. Each time I get a chance to fish in Flamingo we are rewarded with action throughout the day. In Florida Bay snook, redfish, sea trout, jacks and ladyfish and plenty of sharks have been eager to take natural baits and artificial lures. In the Gulf just outside of Florida Bay Spanish mackerel, bluefish, jacks, ladyfish, cobia, pompano, bluerunners, tripletail and sharks have kept us busy most of the day and in Shark River lots of ladyfish, jack crevalles, snapper, goliath grouper, gag grouper, Spanish mackerel and the possibility of a snook, redfish or tarpon on any cast.
So as you can see pick a location and your chances are great that you will rewarded with a great day on the water.
Give me a call at 786-436-2064 and let’s set up a fishing trip before the summer creeps up on us and gives us a sunburn.
Recent Catches:
Fishing in South Biscayne Bay Jonas Krisciunas of MA caught over a dozen Spanish mackerel, bluerunners, jack crevalles, houndfish to 5 lbs., mangrove snapper to 3 ½ lbs., porgy’s, grunts, barracuda and had a barracuda about 30 pounds eat a mackerel that jumped 8 feet in the air before spitting the hook.
Robb Herron and his buddy Kelly teamed up to catch and release goliath grouper, gag grouper, ladyfish, jacks, bluerunners, snapper, sheepshead, Spanish mackerel, sea trout Kelly fought an estimated 200 lb. goliath on 12 lb. spin for over an hour as the fish drug the boat about a mile from where it was hooked and then back but while fighting the goliath a school of cobias in the 15 to 20 lb. range swam right up to the boat where Rob hooked and lost one on an artificial lure before the school left. As we fought the goliath an estimated 100 lb. tarpon ate a live pinfish fished behind the boat and Rob had him on for one spectacular jump.
Steve Ziegler and his son Zach fished in North Bay and caught over 20 sea trout and jack crevalles in a short 4 r. trip.
Steve Bukowski and his son Colan fishing in Flamingo near the Gulf of Mexico caught over 30 Spanish mackerel, pompano to 4 lbs., lane snapper, ladyfish to 4 ¼ lbs., bluerunners, jack crevalles, sea trout, 3 kinds of sharks and tripletail to 6 lbs.
