North Biscayne Bay Fishing Report

Capt. Alan Sherman
April 3, 2007
Miami - Saltwater Fishing Report

When the fishing is good time passes by so fast that you forget to write your weekly fishing updates and I apologize for that. South Florida has been hammered by strong winds for weeks and that trend will probably continue for the next few weeks. After reading that you might think that this is a good time to put the rods away and get your honey doos or taxes done while you wait for the winds to die but if you do you might be making a terrible mistake.

With the windy weather most fishing guides have enough experience to know where they can take clients fishing and keep them in waters calm enough for them to enjoy themselves plus catch quite a few fish. This is why I fish from a 22 foot Pathfinder Bay boat powered by a Yamaha 200 PDI outboard engine. My fishing platform allows me to get to where the protected waters are and to the fish without killing the clients on board the boat.

North Biscayne Bay has plenty of protected shorelines and we are finding lots of sea trout to 23 inches, jack crevalles to 10 pounds, snook, Spanish mackerel, small snapper, small grouper, ladyfish and barracuda. On days the wind has laid down tarpon have finally shown up in the Government Cut area and although they are not jumping on the hooks they have hitting at times. Offshore on the calmer days plenty of kingfish and dolphin are out there and cobias and blackfin tuna are just starting to show up.

Flamingo has plenty of protected shorelines especially if you head into Whitewater Bay. Snook, redfish, snapper, tarpon, goliath and gag grouper, Spanish mackerel, bluefish, ladyfish and jack crevalles and of course all the sharks that you might care to tangle with have been hitting in the back bays, along the Gulf shorelines and in Florida Bay.

Don’t let the wind get you down. Pick up the phone and give me a call and lets see what we can find while we are out on the water despite the wind.

Happy Easter and Passover!
