Miami - Saltwater Fishing Report

Happy New Year to all of my friends, clients and family members! Hope everyone had a safe New Year and hopefully ended the year with a fantastic fishing story to boot.
The past month or so has been as busy as it gets for me and my family and I’m sure your December was much the same. I was fortunate to have my college aged kids in town and my wife and I took them on a short winter vacation but once we returned it was back to fishing everyday. The past few Decembers have been pretty much an extended fall and I for one was happy to see that. Snook and redfish plus some large tarpon in Flamingo definitely enjoyed the warmer weather conditions. December has passed and along with it went the mild conditions and that is OK. Locally in North and South Biscayne Bay and Offshore fishing has been so so and that was due to the mild conditions. We saw a good push of bait and mackerel in the bay in November but a tropical system pushed those fish south of us and the warm conditions kept the next group of fish to the north of us. 2008 has brought one of the strongest cold fronts in the last five years and schools of baitfish and predators should already be heading south for warmer waters. That means Spanish and king mackerel, bluefish, pompano, large jack crevalles and schools of baitfish. Snapper and grouper will be stacking up in the finger channels and fishing the Gulf waters of Flamingo and Florida Bay will see increased numbers of mackerel, bluefish, pompano, cobia, tripletail, ladyfish, sharsks, jacks and along the coast snapper, grouper, trout, black drum, redfish and sheepshead will be available.
If you haven’t had the time or a chance to get out on the water then now is the time. The weather conditions will be as pleasant as it gets for the next four months and the fishing will be at its best. So give me a call at 786-436-2064 or send an e-mail at [email protected].
