Miami - Saltwater Fishing Report

The high wind has kept most people shore bound both during the week and on the weekends. Unless you are just a dye in the wool offshore person, then even on the windiest of days, there are fish to be caught in the Bay. Both on Saturday (11/8) and today (11/11) we made the trip up to the Dumbfoundling Bay area. It gets plenty of wind protection from the large
buildings surrounding the area. The jack crevalles in the 1-5 pound class have been very cooperative. Small barracuda will also bend a rod. Snook are always a possibility. There are plenty of tarpon rolling around that can be the most frustrating fishing there is. If you happen to be there when they turn on, you can't beat the action. When they have lockjaw, you'll find out very quickly why I affectionately call it Frustration Bay.
Besides Dumbfoundling, when the wind blows from any easterly direction, you can take advantage of the east side of Biscayne Bay from Haulover Inlet to
Government Cut. There you'll find seatrout, mangrove snapper, barracuda, tarpon, ladyfish, and jack crevalle. Scale your tackle down to 4, 6, or 8 pound test and have a ball. When the wind starts howling out of a westerly direction, then move over to the west side of the Bay to take advantage of the lee of
the land.
The fish won't always be the biggest ones like you'll catch offshore, but it sure beats sitting at home wishing you could go fishing. Give me a call to
learn about this style of fishing. It'll get you out on the water and could save your day when the offshore gets to rough for your likings.
