Fishing Report for Northern Miami-Dade County

Capt. Dave Kostyo
November 26, 2003
Miami - Saltwater Fishing Report

After all the windy weather, it is really great to get back out and do some comfortable fishing. Like many other Captains, I've had my share of cancelled trips. I did have a few brave anglers who wanted to fish while it was still blowing. One group who had two days scheduled, decided that one day of rough seas was enough.

Spanish mackerel have kept us busy in the 40-90 foot range as well as in Government Cut. We found kings that ate on every pass through the 95-110 foot range off the Twins. Further offshore, the birds have been showing us large schools of blackfin tuna. We had our most success with catching them from 5 - 6 pm on cedar plugs and dolphin juniors. Dolphin have gotten to the time of year when it becomes very hit and miss.

The winter tarpon season will be kicking off shortly. Now is the time to schedule your trip to tangle with one or several of the high flying hard pulling silver kings during the evening. It's a short run to the tarpon grounds and you'll be home in time to get plenty of sleep before going to work the next morning. Many anglers want to catch both a sailfish and tarpon. This can be accomplished with an afternoon/evening trip. Give me a call for more details.
