Miami - Saltwater Fishing Report

We’ve had some pretty good fishing the last couple days. We went to Bimini on Friday
afternoon and fished there Saturday and Sunday, returning in the afternoon. Saturday we
fished some wrecks to the south. Some of our best hookups got away, but we ended up
with a good catch. We were targeting fish for the Metropolitan South Florida Fishing
Tour. with Junior angler Martini Arostegui. He had a 35 pound cobia on pure plug for
half an hour before the hook pulled. After that he caught 5 barracudas to 12 pounds, 8
mangrove snapper to 6 pounds, several big blue runners, 5 nassau grouper to 6 pounds
and 4 black groupers to 8 pounds. Meanwhile his dad fished 6 pound tippet fly in the
other corner of the cockpit. He must have had rubber hooks. This guy is a master with the
fly rod, yet he lost 8 sharks and a 20 pound king mackerel because the hook came out of
the fish.
Sunday we had flat calm seas and clear blue skies. These are bad fish catching
conditions. We fished 3 wrecks to the north. On the first we were greeted by a school of
30 to 40 pound amberjacks. On one of Martini’s first cast, he hooked one on 10 pound
spin. Our luck had not changed. 20 minutes later the hook straightened. Lost another
great one. This wreck produced a few barracuda, a big yellowtail snapper and a couple
blue runners as those big amberjacks refused our offerings.
The next 2 wrecks only produced 3 fish. the best of them was a 16 pound barracuda on
10 pound spin for Martini. We then went deep jigging along the drop off. This produced
2 very good fish. Marty got a 11.5 pound red grouper on plug and Martini got a 12 pound
mutton snapper. The ride home gave up no fishing opportunities.
Monday I fished a charter here in Miami. The action was pretty good. We ended the
day with a 50 pound sailfish release, 3 king mackerel to 27 pounds and 6 dolphin fish.
Happy holidays to all, Capt. Bouncer
