Miami - Saltwater Fishing Report
Today was the first cancellation due to weather in quite a while. Winds were E-SE at 25mph and seas estimated at 7 - 10 ft. Although it was probably a bit less, it still sounded like it would be uncomfortable. Unfortunately the anglers were all from out of town, with only a small window they could fish. All this wind came from Hurricane Gordon over on our West Coast.
The fishing all week has been pretty good. Dolphin fishing has been the mainstay. Most of the fish caught were between 600 - 1200 ft. Most were schoolie size, but I did here some boats catching a couple of 30 pounders. Wahoo fishing has also been pretty good. High speed trolling around debris has provided it's share of fish and some boats that have been live baiting in the deep water (300 plus ft) have also done well. Capt. Jimbo Thomas aboard the Thomas Flyer reported big schools of balled up sardines in 100 ft of water. He reported one group of sardines had 10 - 20 sailfish busting through the bait ball. They caught sailfish there before the bait dispersed. Some bait balls would hold sailfish, other would hold bonitas, but surprisingly none of them held dolphin. Either way, it sounds like the fishing is starting to improve, and the king-fishing has been pretty good every morning.
If you have any fish stories, send over an e-mail. Send over some pictures and maybe we can post them on the fishing report sites. Would love to here from you!
Tight Lines and Good Fishing,
