Miami - Haulover to Fowey Light

Capt. Dean Panos
December 11, 2000
Miami - Saltwater Fishing Report

The fishing was as good as the weather. All last week, the fishing was pretty good, and so was the weather. Multiple sailfish were caught by most boats, as well as big kingfish and dolphin. Come Friday, the wind laid down, the current slowed and so did the fishing. On Saturday, the wind picked up from the East at 15-20 and in came the rain. The fishing can be described as slow at best. We ended up with one kingfish, one bonita, and a sailfish that swam between the boat and the kite baits and never even looked at the baits. Pretty tough considering we had a baitwell loaded with pilchards, goggle eyes and threadfin herring. Sunday was much of a repeat of Saturday. Although we didn't fish, reports were solid rain and very slow fishing.

The good news is, it is fishing and every day can and usually is different than the previous day. Once the winds switch towards the North again the fishing should get a lot better. Forecast is for NE winds by the end of the week which maybe exactly what we need. Some of the best sailfishing days can be had anytime from December to April. If you stay home, you can miss on what could be a banner day.

Wintertime is to fish Miami and during this time of year, most of the fishing is done on the edge. Get your live baits, head out to the blue water edge, set out the flatlines and the kite baits, and get ready. If the conditions are right, you will be in for an action packed day.

Holidays are right around the corner. If you are stuck and can't figure on a gift for that person who seems to have everything or for that person who just loves to fish, consider a gift certificate for a fishing charter. Gift certificates are available, so give us a call (954)680-5004.
