Miami - Saltwater Fishing Report

The winds certainly picked up around Christmas time. Most boats didn't go out until this past Wednesday. We fished Wednesday and Thursday and the fishing was rather good. We caught sailfish on Wednesday, along with big kingfish, dolphin and a big wahoo that broke free 3 feet from the boat. This wahoo was every bit of 45 pounds. We fished between the Miami Sea Buoy and the Doral Hotel most of the day. There was a strong east wind, and the seas were still up a bit from the previous day. Most of our action was in 130ft. and the wahoo bite was in 260ft.
Yesterday the sailfish bite slowed down, but the dolphin continued to bite. We went home with at least a dozen dolphin on both days. The better action seemed to be farther south. The boats that fished South of Fowey fared a bit better with sailfish, although it wasn't red hot.
The good news is that we are getting back to back fronts Thursday night and Friday night, and I expect to see the sailfish action to pick up. We have trips every day this weekend and next week, with the exception of New Year's Day, so we should have a pretty good report next time.
