Miami - Saltwater Fishing Report

4/17/01
Sorry for the short report, but we are getting ready for another sailfish tournament - The CoCo Plum Sailfish Tournament out of CoCo Plum Marina in Coral Gables. This is a limited entry tournament but promises to have the top captains and crews competing for the top prize.
Fishing this past week has overall been good. The sailfish have continued to bite, although we haven't had ten sailfish days, we have gotten 1 to 3 on most days. The kingfish have been biting well early in the morning and the blackfin tuna have definitely shown up, with the best action after 3:00pm. It seems that as everyone is heading back to the marina for the day, is when the fish start biting. Afternoons during April and May are a great time to fish. During these two months, we offer special offshore afternoon trips starting at 4:00pm and ending at 8:00pm. If you are interested, give me a call.
Tarpon fishing remains excellent, with tarpon being found on both sides of the jetties off of Gov't Cut. The South Beach area as well as the "flats" off of the south side of Gov't Cut have had plenty of very large tarpon.
Outlook looks real good. A cold front coming through should pick up the sailfishing. Kingfish should remain solid, and the blackfin tunas should keep increasing in numbers, as should the dolphin. Sounds good - so get out and enjoy!
Tight Lines and Good Fishing,
Capt. Dean Panos
