Miami - Saltwater Fishing Report

8/3/01
A bit of windy and wet weather this week kept most of the boats in harbor. We fished today on the edge and it was fairly productive. We had 6 people in the charter so we split the charter up on two boats. I had three people on my boat Double D and we had the three others go on my friend Dennis Forgione's boat Free Spool.
Catching bait was a bit tough, but we caught enough for the trip, plus I had goggle eyes penned up. The wind was still up and seas were 3-5 ft. Although there wasn't a nice blue edge, there was a ripping North current. We fished from the Monument Bouy all the way past Gov't Cut. The bonitas are plentiful as we caught more than our share. We also caught the largest weighed fish of the day which was a 22 lb. kingfish. Besides the kingfish and bonitas, we also caught dolphin and a few sharks. The Free Spool caught a few kings and two sailfish.
Overall the fishing has been OK, especially considering it is August. Tomorrow we are off to the Bahamas, and will definitely have some fish tales to say.
Tight Lines and Good Fishing,
Capt. Dean Panos
