Miami - Haulover to Fowey Light

Capt. Dean Panos
February 6, 2003
Miami - Saltwater Fishing Report

Double D Charters

02/06/03

Fishing off of Miami continues to produce decent fishing. With the exception of one half day trip last week, we have been getting anywhere from 2 – 5 sailfish per trip. The sailfish have been sort of scattered. Depending on the current and water conditions, we have fished as far north as the anchorage off of Miami to as far south as Triumph. Today we caught a couple of sails between Key Biscayne and Fowey Light.

Dolphin also made a strong showing these past few days. Although we didn’t catch any over 10 pounds, I did hear of some 30 pounders caught today. The dolphin have been on the edge, and out just a bit deeper.

Last weekend and early this week, the kingfish bite of the Cuban Hole in Miami has been phenomenal. There were days that we caught 30 kings in just a few hours. Most of the kings were small (less than 10 pounds), but the action at times was so good, that as soon as the bait hit the water, you had a kingfish.

I haven’t swordfished this week at all. I have a few sword trips this next week. Last week we had a swordfish trip and had a large fish (estimated 250 pounds) follow a tip rod bait right up to the surface. It took a couple of swings at the bait with its massive bill, but was not able to connect home. After a few frustrating minutes, the big sword just swam away, leaving us wondering what if. We did get a bite on a dead squid, but couldn’t get a solid hook up.

Days are filling up quick, as the fishing in Miami continues to stay good.

Give us a call and whether it sailfish, swordfish, tarpon, let’s set up that trip!

Tight Lines and Good Fishing,
