Miami - Haulover to Fowey Light

Capt. Dean Panos
June 10, 2003
Miami - Saltwater Fishing Report

06/10/03

Fishing in Miami continues to be good, with sailfish leading the pack. There were several trips last week that we caught 4 to 6 sailfish per day. Besides sailfish, there have been blackfin tuna, especially south of Fowey Light. Kingfish are still around, but not in the numbers they were last month. There have also been a few wahoo caught last week and this week. The dolphin have finally shown up, but still not in big numbers. Most of the dolphin have been between 6 to 12 miles offshore. The big schools of dolphin should show up any day now. Swordfishing has been a bit slow for May and early June. We did have one full evening swordfish trip last week and we went 0 for 1. The one fish we had on seemed of decent size, but the hook pulled early into the fight. Last year we had a bunch of good swordfish trips in June.

This past weekend, we were in Bimini. As is typical with Bimini, we caught a variety of species. We caught groupers (blacks, reds and yellowfin), snappers (both muttons and many yellowtails), cero mackerels, amberjacks, sharks and cudas. The action was very good and the company was excellent. It’s hard not to have a good time in the Bahamas, and besides that, the fishing is almost always excellent.

This week we fished Miami yesterday and caught sailfish, loads of bonitas and missed a few kings. We have a swordfish trip planned for tomorrow, and then off we go again to Bimini on Friday for three days. The mutton bite should be on, so we’ll keep you posted.

I did get a cancellation for July’s full moon mutton bite, so I have that open if anyone is interested.

Tight Lines and Good Fishing,

Capt. Dean Panos
