Miami - Haulover to Fowey Light

Capt. Dean Panos
July 7, 2003
Miami - Saltwater Fishing Report

07/07/03

Dolphin fishing continues to be very good. We caught our limit or very close to it almost every trip this week, except for today. We only caught a handful of dolphin today, but came in to the reef and caught a sailfish and a ton of big bonitas. The dolphin we have been finding have all been under birds. Most of the action today was in 950 feet of water. Yesterday most of the dolphin schools were either in 1000 ft of water or 500 foot of water. The dolphin were moving pretty fast to the south, but the schools were pretty big. You would catch 5 or 6 fish, they would move south, you would pick and run and catch another 5 or 6. We did this until we had our limit. The dolphin were all of decent size, with the majority of the fish between 5 – 8 pounds.

I didn’t have any swordfish trips this past week, but I have heard of a few fish caught. We have caught swordfish on our last three trips, so I hope it continues as I have a trip scheduled for Thursday night. I am doing a swordfish seminar tomorrow night at the CUDA fishing club in South Dade. If you would like to attend or need more information give me a call.

Next week I’m off to Bimini for a few days, and have some sword trips scheduled as well. These two types of trips, as well as the dolphin trips seem to be the hot ticket, so give me a call and lets GO FISHING!

Tight Lines and Good Fishing,

Capt. Dean Panos
