Miami - Haulover to Fowey Light

Capt. Dean Panos
January 27, 2004
Miami - Saltwater Fishing Report

Double D Charters

1/27/04

Sailfishing during the day has been OK on some days and better on some other days. Last week we were catching anywhere from 3 to 6 sailfish a day, with our best day at 6 for 7. Then came tournament time (Mayor’s Cup) and we managed to catch 3 sailfish in two days. Those three though were not that bad. The lead boat only had five and some of the best sailfisherman in Miami never even caught a sailfish in two days. As with tournament fishing, we had the other two fish on that would have tied us for the lead, but missed one on the kite and another one on a flatline. With this next cold front coming, the sailfishing should continue to improve. While we have been sailfishing, we have also been catching a few dolphin and kingfish.

The night swordfishing has been good. We have caught a swordfish every trip this past week, as well as one last night. Our best night we caught three. There have been some big fish reported from the fleet as well. This is the time of year (winter to spring) that some of the big fish show up. All you need is some flexibility with your schedule according to the weather, and the swordfishing should be good.

Although I have not done any tarpon trips yet this year (I am going tonight) the reports have been excellent. Both inlets have been producing quite a few tarpon.

The report is short, but I got to get ready to go fishing. We have a trip booked (either day or night) every day this week so if you want to go catch a sailfish, swordfish, tarpon, give me a call and lets set it up!

Tight Lines and Good Fishing,

Capt. Dean Panos
