Miami - Haulover to Fowey Light

Capt. Dean Panos
December 17, 2004
Miami - Saltwater Fishing Report

Dec. 17th 2004

The bite is on RIGHT NOW.

This weeks cold fronts have got the sailfish pouring through our area. Yesterday there were quite a few boats that caught sailfish in the double digits. I love catching sails and I was going nuts sitting on the dock without a trip. When the bite is on, you have to capitalize and go for it. Being a week or so before the holidays, the charter business is a little slow, but the bite is on now, so anyone who wants to catch sails, now is the time. The cold front that is supposed to arrive Sunday should get the sails fired up even more.

Last week we fished the Sailfish Kickoff. It was a great tournament with quite a few fish released. There were 194 releases for 61 boats. Day one started off good for us. Practically minutes from lines in we hooked and landed a 35-pound wahoo. Hooked in the corner of the mouth with mono leader. The fish ate a herring on the kite. This is the third trip in a row that we have caught a wahoo while livebaiting. After that we caught a few kings and 2 sailfish. We missed a smoker king that skied on our kite bait that was easily 45 pounds. Day two we went 3 for 5 on the sails and a few more kings. Congrats to all the participants and especially to the winners. Hard work pays off and we will be back at it for the next scheduled Tournament which is the Mayors Cup.

As far as tournaments go, the CocoPlum is January 14-16 and we have those dates open, so anyone interested, please give me a call.

There has also been some decent bottom fishing. There have been a few blacks and a few gag grouper caught as well as some nice size mutton snappers. Overall the fishing is good. I have a few days open next week and then I am booked practically everyday between Christmas and the first week in January.

While the fishing is good, give me a call and lets go catch-em.

I wish everyone Happy Holidays and a Safe and Happy New Year.

For all my clients and friends I would like to say thank you for your continued support and friendship and look forward to fish with you in the future.

Tight Lines and Good Fishing,

Capt. Dean Panos
