Miami - Saltwater Fishing Report

Fishing off of Miami has staid real good. Lots of Kingfish have been found south of Fowey Light. The fish have been on the smaller side, but the possibility of a big king always exists. Dolphin fishing has been fairly consistent. There has been a good dolphin bite in on the edge and also about 11 - 14 miles offshore, although the offshore bite may change day to day. Sailfish are still being found on the edge.
This past week we had a trip to the Bahamas. We fished an area NE or Bimini and saw a lot of action with BIG yellowtails. Some tails were up to 5 lbs. We also caught some grouper, but they were nothing to brag about. Kingfish on our trip were almost non-existent. This was probably due to the lack of live bait chumming. We brought some live bait over from Miami, anticipating catching some around Bimini. Unfortunately, the live bait off of Bimini was non existent. We used our livies for the bottom fish and thus did not live chum with them.
After a little while the sharks moved in and shut off the bite. We simply moved farther down the reef, until they showed again. We kept moving until it was time to hed back to the barn. By the end of the day we had an impressive catch in the box and were releasing flag yellowtails that people would consider trophies in the U.S. The bottom and reef fishing in the Bahamas is real good at this time of year. Don't miss out!
Tight Lines and Good Fishing,
Capt. Dean Panos
