Miami - Saltwater Fishing Report

This past week saw pretty decent fishing. The guys livebaiting on the edge did fairly well. Early in the week, there were some boats fishing on the deeper side (~500 ft), and caught several dolphin over 30 lbs. The kingfishing has slowed down, except in the morning in some areas south of the Monument Buoy off of Key Biscayne. The blackfin tuna have mostly turned off. There are a couple caught in the morning or afternoon, but on the whole have all but disappeared.
Sailfishing has been pretty good. On Saturday, fishing north, and during the Pompano Saltwater Slam tournament, we had 3 sailfish. Wouldn't you know it, but sailfish didn't count in this tournament. We caught kingfish up to 15 lbs., and numerous dolphin all under the 10 lb. minimum weight. The most impressive catch was a 60+ lb. Wahoo caught on the boat Alpha Omega.
This tournament is sponsored by Mercury Outboards - the Best Outboards made! (www.mercurymarine.com) It is the first a three leg tournament. The second leg is on July 22nd.
