Miami - Saltwater Fishing Report

The fishing slowed down a bit this week, especially leading into and during the weekend. Calm seas during the week made dolphin fishing comfortable and fairly productive, although most of the fish we caught were schoolies that weighed two to six pounds. During the weekend the wind switched to the SW and increased. We ran across to Bimini, and the run across was OK. The run back with the wind increasing was a little sloppy. I was sure glad I was on my SeaVee Boat. That boat can make a nasty ride into an easy going and SAFE ride. The deep vee hull slices through the waves and the reverse chines keep you dry. Obviously a bit biased, but I believe it is the best 28 footer on the market, hands down.
We ran into dolphin on the way across and also into a sailfish, sunning itself on the surface. We had a couple of shots at him, but he didn't seem too interested in the live goggle eyes or pilchards we were advertising. The fishing for the Bahamas was a little slow for Bahama fishing, but we still managed to catch our limit of yellowtails, mackerels and a couple of kingfish in the 35 - 40 lb. class. We lost one kingfish that would have gone over 50 lbs.
We have a tournament we are fishing this weekend. It is the second leg of the Pompano Beach Saltwater Series.
For more info on the tournament contact Jamie at (954)942-9976.
