Fishing Report for Northern Miami-Dade County

Capt. Dave Kostyo
October 11, 2005
Miami - Saltwater Fishing Report

For the past several days, we've been experiencing winds from the SW to NW. This has driven the blue edge out much deeper and has allowed dirty green

water into the area. There has been spotty dolphin action along the blue side of the edge. Sailfishing action in the Haulover area has been almost non-existent with the green water and lack of current. The best bet in the green water has been kingfishing straight out from Haulover and a mile north and south of there. Both the live baiters and trollers are catching kings with the edge to the trollers as the fish are not schooled up like they will be in about another month or so. By covering more ground, you'll increase your chances of finding the fish. The trollers that are finding success are using planers and drone spoons to get down to the fish. Live baiters are getting their chances using downriggers and weighted baits fished from 70' down to just off the bottom. The flatline surface baits have been untouched except by birds looking for an easy meal. Most of the action has been taking place in the 150 - 210' range and the action seems to taper off quite

a bit after 10:30 in the morning. It picks back up again in the late afternoon.

With the lack of much current, bottom fishing and dropping on the deep wrecks has produced little to no action. As soon as the current picks up, I expect to action to do the same.
