This has been a great week to fish the Everglades, Redfish on the flats, Large 4 pound Trout and good Snook fishing on top-water plugs and last but not least Tarpon swimming the beaches on the west coast.
I have been starting my days off extra early and running in the dark one hour and a half before sunrise to make sure we are where we want to be before the sun comes up.
We start the day plugging the mangrove shorelines for Snook and Trout with a couple of large Mangrove Snapper mixed in. This week we caught a bunch of Snook maybe 20 or more in two days with the largest at 17 fat pounds.
The Trout bite has been off the chain with at least 50 per day and most averaging 4 pounds most are caught on Rapala Skitter-walk top water lures for the sport of it and in the mix are a ton of ladyfish and Jacks sometimes 2 fish per lure, it is great action. Then when you want to change up we either Tarpon fish an hour or two after sun-up or run to the flats to find tailing Redfish everywhere we caught 2 reds in 10 minutes thursday 5 minutes from Flamingo.... it's been that good.
On the Ocean off the Keys and Miamis' Biscayne Bay the Tarpon are swimming north and in Miami they are eating large brown flies, yesterday we jumped one tarpon and had 4 more bites on fly.
We will have high winds until Monday so after that the Tarpon bite will be real good around Miami and we have found a secret bait that they can't refuse....it was a suprise to me.
Look for more reports soon.....
Good luck
Capt. Jim Hale
