Spring Has Sprung!!

Capt. Gil Gutierrez

Miami - Saltwater Fishing Report

What a difference a couple of weeks make. The fishing has gotten really good. No matter what fish you are looking for they are biting. Let's start with the tarpon fishing. The tarpon are biting very well. We caught fish on every single trip except one and even that night we had our shot but we failed to connect. But other than that one night the tarpon fishing has been very good. I recently fished with a new customer of mine Dan. When we first met at the boat he started to tell me his life's battle against cancer. One of his "bucket list fish", his words not mine, was a tarpon. All of a sudden I felt a tremendous amount of pressure to catch him a tarpon. Well, we caught several fish that night and had a blast doing it. I told him next year we would do it again and we will. Fight the good fight Dan.
Offshore the fishing is as good as it gets. We have caught at least a sail on almost every trip and had a several trips with multiple fish. The sailfish bite should remain strong until summer. The meat fishing has been very good. The kingfish have shown up in force. We are catching them on the kite, flat lines and mid depth rods. The kings have been as high as 30# range. We have also caught some mahi-mahi while fishing the reef. The mahi have not been huge but when we do run into them they are plentiful. The bottom bite has definitely picked back up. In the last 2 days alone we have caught several mutton snapper, African pompano and cobia. Our largest cobia was 80#'s. Remember that May 1 is fast approaching and grouper season reopens so give me a call if you want to go get some eating fish. I will be fishing 10 consecutive days so I promise to write a report the first chance I get. Until next time, Best of Luck…
