Summer fishing at it's Best

Capt. Alan Sherman
August 12, 2015
Miami - Saltwater Fishing Report

I have only had a couple of fishing reports to report since my last article. Normally this time of the year is slow for me and this year is no different so I take a little time off and spend it with my family. So I got to fish my my nephew Matt something I hadn't done in more years than I can remember. My nephew Matt was in town from Tennessee. He joined me on the Get Em and off we went looking for dolphins. Six hours later and after catching over 25 fish we headed in with about 15 keepers to seven pounds. He was smiling all day. I think he had a good time. I know I did! www.getemsportfishing.com

Went on a well deserved vacation to the Caribbean with my wife Dana.

Then went to the Keys to hang out with my cousin Stew and his wife Diane. My wife Dana and I met my Cousin Stu and his wife Diane in the Keys at Guy Harvey's Outpost/Islander Bayside (Very Nice) for Stu's 60th birthday. We had a wonderful stay at the Islander Bayside/Guy Harvey Outpost. The first day we fished offshore for a few hours with Stu's friend Bob and both my wife and I caught our first Genuine red snappers. We also had mutton snappers, vermillion snappers and lots of sharp nosed Caribbean reef sharks before heading in. The last day we fished inshore and caught barracuda's, snappers and sharks and did a little snorkeling as well. Great times and incredible food!

One day back and I find myself working in Flamingo. Santiago and Rick had a blast fishing and enjoying the beauty of Flamingo. The guys caught a bunch of redfish and snook on Twitchin Raps, Hookup lures tipped with Gulp baits and with live finger mullet fished under a Cajun Thunder float. Santiago had a big fish that broke off early in the day. Thats the picture of the Key Largo rod with a good bend in it. Probably a shark or a sawfish. Late in the day we got into a group of tripletail but could only get one to eat. Great day in Flamingo!

Miami Fishing Forecast:

Spring is here and the fishing in South Florida is about to explode. With water temperatures rising sea trout and snook will start their spawning seasons. Bigger fish and bigger numbers of fish! Spanish mackerel, bluefish and kingfish are heading north for the summer. As they pass the Miami area they always provide a months' worth of action. Big jack crevalles will be chasing baitfish schools in North Bay and big tarpon will be stealing baits intended for other fish. Offshore we will see kingfish and Spanish mackerel, bonitos, sailfish, dolphins and blackfin tuna feeding right alongside each other. In Flamingo in Everglades National Park we will see the return of all of the migratory birds as they fill the park and make unbelievable sunrise pictures. Fishing for snook, redfish, sheepshead, blackdrum, snapper, sea trout, jacks ladyfish, sharks, tripletail, cobia and more will be as e exciting light tackle fishing as one could wish for. When the freshwater levels drop in the Everglades Conservation areas the largemouth bass stack up in the canal systems providing 100 fish days.

Target Species:

Largemouth Bass, Snook, Sea Trout, Redfish, Cobia, Dolphins, Sailfish more!
