Miami - Saltwater Fishing Report

If you recall, 2016 was the worst mahi season in modern history. Well this year is a complete reversal. We have seen weeks of good mahi fishing. The fish have ranged from little schoolies to an occasional 30 to 50 pound monster showing up in the fleet.

Bottom fishing has been better too. We have had great catches of mutton snappers, black groupers, gag groupers, red snapper and red grouper. The only slow action has been from almaco jacks. There were great grey snapper reports up until last week, when sharks ruined that game in several locations.

Bonito and kingfish have been pretty good at striking spoons trolled behind planers. Wahoo should show up this week with the full moon.

While Tarpon action ended early this year in Miami, snook action has been good for catch and release. Be kind to these fish so they are healthy to spawn over the summer months.

We have had some good swordfish action, but some slow days as well. The next couple months can go either way, as we have seen good summers and slow summers.

We even had a really good Bimini trip last month. We were losing faith in this destination, but last month we had big cero and king mackerel, big yellow.
