Another Year of Great Fishing

Capt. Dean Panos
January 2, 2014
Miami - Saltwater Fishing Report

1/2/14

It's hard to believe, but another year has gone by. I would like to thank all my clients, as this past year was one of the best years ever with a record setting amount of trips for the year. Not only did we have a lot of trips, but we also had a lot of great trips!! Whether it was sailfish, swordfish, tunas, mahis, etc. we had a blast all year long and definitely made some new friends as well as fished with a lot of old friends as well. Through the years, I have been lucky enough to have a steady amount of repeat clients and have fished with some for over 20 years. I have seen them grow, seen their kids grow and have established great friendships with a lot of them. My goal is to make every customer a repeat customer and although the fishing cannot be spectacular all the time, I know that myself and my mate will put forth every effort imaginable to make each trip productive and as much fun as possible. I would also like to thank my sponsors for not only helping us out but for providing some truly great products. Without them none of this would be possible.

To start off this year, we have a brand new set of Mercury Verado engines going on the boat next week. That means reliable and proven marine power to last us for the year. This last set of Verados was perhaps the best set of engines I have ever owned. We had zero downtime with them and zero failures. That's over 1200 hours of hard use with no failures at all. The boat and tackle are constantly being maintained to ensure trouble free trips every time. It's not hard to do as SeaVee builds the best open fisherman out there and our tackle is top notch.

In the past few weeks we have fished with some repeat clients as well as some new clients and had some really fun fishing trips. We did have one daytime swordfish trip that resulted in no swords, but not due to lack of effort. I'm sure next time we will get them. We also did some sailfish trips and some general fishing on the edge. The best day we had sailfishing we caught 6 out of 8 sailfish and that was with a client that has been fishing with me a couple of times in the past few years. Today I fished with a new client, his 5-year-old son and a friend. We ended up catching 2 sails and a tuna, but what was special about this trip was to see the excitement in the young boy's face while we were fishing. This boy had been on boats since an infant and was truly enjoying himself all day long and even more when he was fighting both sailfish (with just a little help from Dad). It's great to see young ones so into fishing. Kind of reminds us of ourselves when we were little.

The month of January is quickly booking up and I have almost 20 trips already booked for this month. So if the cold weather up north has got you feeling down, that leaves 11 more open days to come down to sunny Florida and enjoy some great winter sailfishing. After all the weather the next few days is supposed to be between a low of 60 and a high of 75. Great weather to go along with great fishing – can't beat that! If you can't make it this month, no worries I have openings in February, March and April and sailfish season will last well into the end of April.
Plan your trip now and lets catch em up!
