Dec 2013 Fishing Report

Mosquito Lagoon - Saltwater Fishing Report

DEC 2013 Fishing Report For :
New Smyrna Beach , Daytona Beach , Mosquito Lagoon and Edgewater FL

Here we are almost into 2014 seems a little crazy to me but I guess it will be another fishing year in
the books. The fish from New Smyrna Beach south to Mosquito lagoon have not made it to their
winter time pattern yet and a lot of that has to do with the weather conditions. We have had some
abnormal weather so far this year and very few cold fronts which supply the winds we need to lower
the water level in the lagoon system. So with the higher water and higher than usual water temps the
red fish and trout are still holding on the shallow grass flats mixed in with the pods of bait fish. In the
northern part of the lagoon around New Smyrna and Edgewater look around the oyster bars that are holding
bait and you will find a mixed bag of fish from red fish ,trout, flounder and snook. As far as south Mosquito lagoon
the water has been very clean making for great sight fishing I like to throw plugs in the early morning
then switching to ADL spoons and soft plastics as the sun gets higher, The flounder have been moving in
thick around New Smyrna and Edgewater and can be caught bouncing the bottom with a soft plastic or shrimp
on a jig head. The trout bite has been good through both the north and south lagoon system and the new 6'/8" or 7'
ADL/ Seeker rod teamed up with a free lined finger mullet is a great match for that trout of a life time.
Good luck and be safe !
