Mosquito Lagoon - Saltwater Fishing Report

Jan 2014 Fishing Report:
For Daytona Beach,New Smyrna Beach and Mosquito Lagoon

Here we are with another year behind us and a new one ahead. The fishing has been good through out New Smyrna Beach and Mosquito Lagoon
with great numbers of redfish, trout and black drum being caught. Lets start just north of New Smyrna in the Daytona Beach area, there has been
good numbers of trout , flounder and redfish around the docks of Daytona. I like to fish the docks on the top of the out going tide throwing
soft plastics on a weighted hook along with a ADL spoon. For live bait a shrimp bounced along the bottom or a free lined mullet is always
a good choice. The creeks of New Smyrna has been a little slower than usual but the middle and south Mosquito Lagoon has been on fire.
we have been catching good numbers of slot reds and overs along the bars of the lagoon throwing live shrimp to cruising and tailing
fish. The trout have been holding in the sand holes gathering the warmth for the day a free lined mullet is a good choice to bag one of
these trophies. There has also been a couple of large schools of black drum cruising the flats of the south Mosquito Lagoon I like to throw
something dark in color even the carbon ADL spoon works great or a shrimp.

Good luck and be safe
