Jan 2017 fishing report

Mosquito Lagoon - Saltwater Fishing Report

Jan 2017 mosquito lagoon and new Smyrna beach fishing report!

Well 2017 has finally started and it seems to be off to a good start. The water clarity in the Lagoon System has improved greatly and the fish seem to be chewing very well. The water has dropped after the last couple of cold fronts and the current moon phase pushing fish into a winter time pattern. Look for redfish on the shallow grass flats nose down rooting around for a easy meal. I like to throw smaller crustacean artificals early in the morning then moving to a Aqua Dream Spoon as the day moves on. Mullet, cut bait and live shrimp have been working just as well. There has been some large schools of black drum on the flats as well and seem to eat well on a shrimp or half crab presented correctly. The trout can be found holding in the pot holes through out the lagoon and laying on the mud flats toward the north in the New Smyrna Beach and Edgewater area. Tricking the bigger ones is always a task but can be done on live finger mullet and soft plastics as well.
Good luck and be safe!
