July 2013 Mosquito Lagoon/New smyrna bch Report

Mosquito Lagoon - Saltwater Fishing Report

July 2013 Mosquito Lagoon,New Smyrna Beach,Daytona Beach Report

With summer in full effect and the heat index off the charts the bite has also been pretty hot as well. We have been catching
good numbers of redfish and trout from Daytona beach south to Tittusville. I have been targeting the reds on the shallow grass early
and then moving to the grass edges by mid day. I have been using Aqua dream Spoons and a variety of soft plastics along with
cut bait , live mullet and pinfish and having great success. For the trout we have targeted them in a couple feet of water holding under
the bait pods and also in the deeper sloughs. Twitch baits and soft plastics have been doing well and you can never go wrong with a free lined pigfish.
The tarpon have started to move into the ICW and can be found holding around the bridges in the New Smyrna Beach area. Make sure you up
grade your equipment and tackle to be able to handle the stress they will deliver. Plugs and a variety of live baits presented in a strong current
will work well on theses fish.
