Mosquito Lagoon - Saltwater Fishing Report

March 2015
Mosquito Lagoon,New Smyrna Beach and Daytona Beach Fishing Report

Believe it or not we have had a very nasty winter down here in Florida with a lot of cool weather and very strong winds. But on the other hand compared to the rest of the nation with above normal snow fall I think we are doing just fine. I am hoping with Spring in full affect that the cold fronts are a thing of the past . The redfish bite has been on fire the last few weeks with a lot of double digit days.We have been using both artificial and live bait from Aqua Dream Spoons and soft plastics to shrimp andlive mullet if it hits the water they have been eating. With the water levels lower this time of year look in
the pot holes and you find not only redfish looking for a meal but also sea trout. Mosquito Lagoon andNew Smyrna Beach area is known for large sea trout and this time of year through May is a great time to hook that trout of a lifetime. I have been doing very well on plugs , live mullet and shrimp finding the bait has been key ,if you find the schools of mullet you find the trout. We have also had great number of black drum through out both Mosquito lagoon and Indian River Lagoon. My go to bait has been either shrimp or broken blue crab. They have been in schools from thirty to well over a hundred look on the large sandy bottom through out the lagoon system and you will find them milling around or even tailing. Try and present your cast softly and
it will almost be a guarantee hook up.

Good luck and be safe
