Mosquito lagoon bait on the move

Mosquito Lagoon - Saltwater Fishing Report

The mosquito Lagoon has given up its share of redfish this week. But the bigger trout have slowed a little. Not that we are not seeing them or getting bites (a few a day) just not as many. We took many trout this week but the majority of them have been shorts. These were fish we caught in the deep holes on Gulp Chartreuse Jerk Shads fished on a jig head. The trout season is closed for the next two months though so make a not of this. Volusia county trout seasons opens back up on January 1st. We took several flounder on Gulp while fishing for trout. The lagoon has a lot of bait in the estuary and fish are gorging them selves. The reds we caught this week were a little sluggish in the morning and then turned on by 10am. We through Gulp shrimp at the first five fish we saw and caught three of them. The next five we tossed live finger mullet at them and they just did not want finger mullet. So we went back to the Gulp shrimp and started getting bites again. All the fish are fat and healthy as they are trying to put on the fat layer for the up and coming winter.

Tarpon are gone, OK the big ones smaller fish can be found in the creeks. Ladyfish and jacks have mover to the river and the big flounder should show soon. The four flounder we took this week were on the smaller side. Wonder if the shrimp boats have been netting them up before they get in the inlet? I wonder why we are so regulated and a shrimp boat can kill millions of small juvenile l table fish that will never get the chance to reproduce for our kids to catch? U ever seen the by catch a shrimp boat tosses over the side every night. How are they being able to fish in such a destructive way for a shrimp that can be farm raised in a pond? Look how we took gill nets away from the commercial fisherman and they were not nearly as destructive. I say the government can give each shrimper a few acres and let them raise plenty of shrimp for the USA. This is a movement that will have to take place before all the ocean floors are scraped of all its sea life. Can anyone tell me why this practice is still being used? Or why the by catch is able to lie on the deck of the shrimp boat until it dies then shoveled overboard? I am not picking on the shrimpers but if I had to kill nine of my first fish caught everyday to keep the next one. I think I would look for a better way to fish. Remember think like a fish to catch fish or just call me 386 314 5656
