Mosquito Lagoon Fishing Report

Capt. Chris Myers
November 19, 2011
Mosquito Lagoon - Saltwater Fishing Report

As we approach the Thanksgiving holiday week, the fishing is excellent on the flats of the Mosquito Lagoon. The redfish have been feeding aggressively on crabs and shrimp. Fly fishermen have been having great success targeting them using a black redfish worm, tan crab patterns, or bendback style flies. many of the fish are digging in the bottom when you spot them so accurate casts are necessary for them to be able to see your fly.

Conventional anglers caught plenty of fish this week using the DOA shrimp. This lure was working better that the jerk worm. The glow color and the watermelon holographic shrimp were rarely being refused by reds. There are a few big trout around as well. Fortunately the season is closed and these trophy fish must be released through the end of the year. They are much spookier than the redfish but will often eat the same lures. If you are targeting them on fly, try an unweighted pattern.

Target Species:

redfish, trout
