Mosquito Lagoon - Saltwater Fishing Report

High winds have been the dominant factor the past couple weeks. On the few days the wind has not been blowing, there have been good numbers of large trout on the flats around the newly arriving finger mullet. The DOA Chug Head rigged on a 5.5 inch CAL tail has been effective in the morning bringing some spectacular topwater bites. The Chug Head allows you to make a weedless topwater bait from your soft plastic tails. During the day, the trout have been lying in shallow sand holes and are willing to eat a well placed plastic shrimp or jerkbait. School sized trout have been plentiful in 2-4 feet of water where the bottom is a mixture of sand and grass patches.
The redfish schools are beginning to break up which means the fish are spread out over a wider area. They are still tailing on shrimp and crabs but are beginning to turn their attention to the baitfish. Schools of large reds have been cruising the deeper edges of flats on most days.
Target Species:

Redfish, Seatout, Black Drum
