Mosquito Lagoon - Saltwater Fishing Report

Summer of 2016 has been fun so far, lots of great weather, pretty mornings, catching fish. Mosquito Lagoon my usual Redfish and Seatrout hunting grounds and the back waters of the Indian River at New Smyrna Beach and Edgewater for mixed bag variety fishing, always many different species biting on live shrimp baits with free lined light tackle. A recent variety trip had 19 different fish species including, Trout, Snook, Croakers, Whiting, Pompano, Jack Crevalle, Ladyfish, and so on. On the flats of the Lagoon we hunt for tailing or waking Redfish on the shallow grass flats and edges, live baits can be the best summer Seatrout tactic on the deeper drop offs. First time client Paul from New Smyrna brought his son out for a lagoon trip a few days ago and the Trout were happy to cooperate catching a bunch on live pigfish and croakers topped by this 26" speck ................................

Regular clients from Central Florida came an their annual summer trip with me, staying shallow for Reds the first couple hours catching a few good spot tails, then switched to Trout catching about a dozen specks and a few Jack Crevalle also stretched their lines. Bridget had best luck on the Redfish............................
