Mosquito Lagoon - Saltwater Fishing Report

Having a fun fall of fishing here on Mosquito Lagoon Florida in November 2013, Redfish and Seatrout catching in the autumn pattern with high water, clear on the grass flats, still a little cloudy in some backcountry areas with a mud bottom. Water temperatures in the middle to upper 60's, cooling off a little but not yet winter chilly. A few small schools of reds starting to form, but still plenty of single fish. Shoreline areas are still a good bet with the high water, but as of a few days ago noticing slightly lowering water level out on the open lagoon area again making more grass flats a favorable depth of 12" to 20" which is "Redfish depth" in my neighborhood. Still baiting with mullet mostly, throwing topwater lures and weedless jerkbaits in the early morning low light conditions. A recent charter trip with 3 generations from Indiana, grandpa Ken treated son Joe and grandson Danny to fishing with me. All caught some Reds along with Trout, of course young Danny caught the largest Redfish........

And grandpa also caught a nice one.

Vic a new Edgewater resident had a great time on a solo trip a couple weeks ago, catching 6 Reds including this 25" spottail.

Just a couple days ago I hosted a 2 boat charter with a repeat client and friends out for a bachelor party fishing trip before his friends wedding. On my boat we caught 7 Redfish up to 24" caught by Doug here with his fish.

And I got to go fly fishing recently invited by a friend on his boat, after push poling him around for a while it was my turn on the bow, and in short order had a Redfish in front of me, then hooked up on my 6 weight TFO outfit. A beautiful 10 spot fishy.

Edgewater backcountry mixed bag fishing is still in fall pattern with lots of variety and fast action from Seatrout, Mangrove Snapper, Sheepshead, Jacks, Ladyfish, and starting to catch some small Redfish in the back waters which will be around through the winter.
Most mixed trips we catch 10 or more species usually with some surprises such as this cute micro Snook from a recent trip. Mixed bag trips are great for kids and family groups wanting some easy fast catching action and great wildlife viewing seeing Dolphins and lots of sea birds up close and personal on every trip.
