Mosquito Lagoon & North Indian River Lagoon

Capt. Chris Myers
October 27, 2007
Mosquito Lagoon - Saltwater Fishing Report

After a month of being high and dirty , this week brought some clean and lower water levels to Mosquito Lagoon. The fish seemed to like this as much as I did and they were happy and feeding. The DOA shallow running Baitbuster has been producing some great strikes from both redfish and trout. Just as things were looking good, however, a low pressure system settled in to our north bringing cloudy skies. Winds up to 25 knots are forecast at least through the middle of next week along with more clouds and rain.

When the weather improves, look for the fish to be feeding aggressively in anticipation of the season's first cold front. Schools of mullet are still plentiful throughout the Lagoon and where there is food, there is sure to be predators nearby.

While waiting on better weather to arrive, use the time to perform equipment and boat maintenance you have been putting off over the summer. Spool up with fresh line, clean and oil your reels, and wax your boat. If you can't be out fishing, you might as well be preparing for your next trip. Let's hope the weather improves soon.
