Ponce Inlet to Mosquito Lagoon

Capt. Joe Porcelli
January 31, 2001
Mosquito Lagoon - Saltwater Fishing Report

The weather has been so beautiful this past week with temperature in the 60 to 70s. The fishing has been even better. The week was full of catching Mike Hughes and son Michael joined me for a half day on his 13th birthday and caught fifty-one reds. That would be the catch of the week. Then again five of the last seven charters have caught over thirty reds each day, that’s catching. My Shimano 2000 have been screaming all week like music to the ears.

We took all those reds on shrimp and 12 Fathom jigs in the Mosquito Lagoon. The trout are there also but we have not fished them much. My clients have had so much fun with the reds they do not want to go look for trout and leave the reds, Can you blame them. The trout we have caught this weekend were nice and fat.

Grouper and snapper are in the channel along with black drum snook and sheepshead. The snook are at the docks and the sheepshead snapper and grouper are along the rocky edges if the channel. The black drum are in the two to four foot of water and are eating small blue crabs and shrimp. Remember to release any of the larger drums to reassure a healthy stock of fish for our kids.

Remember: Think like a fish to catch fish.
