Ponce Inlet to Mosquito Lagoon

Capt. Joe Porcelli

Mosquito Lagoon - Saltwater Fishing Report

Fishing in the Mosquito Lagoon this past week has been hit or miss. Betsy Schweizer joined me today on a half -day trip and caught a five-pound trout on her second cast. She caught thirteen fish total including trout, redfish, ladyfish, flounder, and a jack. We were throwing pigfish today, but my girlfriend and I fished this weekend and took the same species on 12 Fathom Jigs. We were using the four

inch shad bodies in pearl and black with a 16th oz. Jig head.

We also sight fished the flats this past week for reds as well. We saw numerous amounts of fish in the white sand wholes between the patches of grass. We had a few days when the reds were turning their heads away from live shrimp. That morning followed a hard shrimp run and a big moon in the Lagoon.

Look for numerous schools of finger mullet and fish the edges of them. A lot of the bait is in the two to four foot of water. Toss your 12 Fathom shad or live bait near them and let it hit the bottom, you want to bounce your jig and make some noise. Trout will pick up your bait and spit it out so be sure you use a sensitive line like Remington Power-Lokt.

Remember: Think like a fish to catch fish.
