Mosquito Lagoon - Saltwater Fishing Report

The weather has been perfect this week with clear skies and the low at 61 and the high about 79. Just perfect! With conditions like this and slick flats in the a.m. the redfish tails have been easy to spot. The trout have been just as easy to see, but they must be released because the season is still closed this month. We have been leaving them alone in fear of hooking one deep and having them die on us. We have caught a few blind casting 12 Fathom slam'Rs in the pumpkinseed color.
We have just gotten done bait fishing for a snook trip in a few hours, we fished the edge of the Indian River where the flats meet the channel. We were catching our pigfish (little grunt) for bait, we also caught lane and mangrove snapper along with silver trout. This is a good way to spend a day with your kids or just do it for yourself, if you like catching this is fun. Just anchor along any of the many ledges in the Indian River and start dropping small pieces of shrimp to the bottom. You never know what you will catch.
The river is giving up it's share of sheepshead, they are also at the jettys. Again a piece of shrimp or oyster crab works well. I use Stren power lock braided line so I can feel the slightest movement or pickup. You can feel your bait get nervous just before a strike with live bait.
Remember: Think like a fish to catch fish.
